Therapeutic Injections
At Sports and Spinal Physio we offer Ultra Sound guided Therapeutic steroid and Hyaluronic Injections for lower limb pain and injury.
Hydrocortisone Steroid Injections
The administered product is Depo-Medrone with Lidocaine, an anti-inflammatory steroid combined with a local anaesthetic. The local anaesthetic helps to alleviate pain in the affected area, while the corticosteroid medication helps reduce inflammation. Corticosteroids are a safe and effective anti-inflammatory medicine used to treat a number of musculoskeletal conditions including but not limited to:
- Joint inflammation; synovitis
- Osteoarthritis
- Bursitis
- Mortons neuroma
- Plantar fasciitis
An assessment with your clinician will be carried out prior, to check if you are suitable for a corticosteroid injection. The administered Corticosteroid continues working for 3-6 weeks. On occasions one is sufficient, however up to 2 follow up injections can be administered in the same area for the same structure within a 12-month period.
Hyaluronic Acid Injections
The administered product is Ostenil, a treatment for the symptoms of Osteoarthritis. It is injected directly into Synovial Joints in the body with degenerative changes (osteoarthritis), this includes the knee, ankle and toe joints.
Ostenil can decrease pain and stiffness and improve the other symptoms of osteoarthritis, the Hyaluronic Acid product helps to restore balance within the joint. It is a pure product manufactured by a process of fermentation; it does not contain animal products.
Ostenil is a safe product and the number of injections is not limited, it is dependent on outcome.
All Therapeutic injections are performed via ultrasound guidance. Ultrasound guidance improves the safety and accuracy of needle placement, thus injection treatment.
A radiology report is required prior to treatment; X-Ray, Ultrasound, MRI, these can be arranged by your clinican via an NHS or Private Referral.
A review with your Clinician is required, they will inform you on the most suitable return time. Typically injection are used in conjunction with other treatments such as physiotherapy.
