Running & Gait Analysis
Achilles tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis, knee osteoarthritis and hip bursitis are common lower limb injuries often made worse by walking and running.
At Sports and Spinal Physio we believe that all lower limb injuries and in fact most spinal problems should routinely undergo a Video Gait Analysis as part of assessment.
So what is a Video Gait Analysis?
The way that you walk is unique to you. Subtle differences such as foot roll, knee position and pelvis tilt are all common variables that make your walk different from the next person. These subtle differences occur as a result of genetics, motor learning, occupation and sporting interests and develop over time.
Video Gait Analysis enables us to analyse your movement in slow motion, work out what subtle issue is potentially contributing to your problem and what we need to do to fix it.

What Should I Expect?
Our clinicians will take a video of you walking or running and use a large screen to show you what they find.
Below are some of the reasons why we may choose to use Video Gait Analysis as part of your physio session:
- We can make footwear suggestions based on how your foot moves.
- We can determine if you would benefit from orthoses (insoles) these help to modify the forces acting on your feet and lower limb when you walk and run.
- We can observe movement patterns that might cause your problem and set about correcting these with you.
- We can identify weak muscles that we can target with exercise rehabiltation.
- We can help coach your movements to optimise your technique to improve your performance.
